Welcome to

Contra Alpha

Contra Alpha is a financial and markets commentary page dedicated to contrarian investment ideas.

Contra Alpha is built on the philosophy of contrarian investing, described as:

To buy when others are despondently selling and to sell when others are euphorically buying takes the greatest courage, but provides the greatest profit. (John Templeton)

You are neither right nor wrong because the crowd disagrees with you. You are right because your data and reasoning are right. (Warrren Buffett)

Indeed, merely going against group-think and crowded trades is not enough, and Contra Alpha is dedicated to seeking ideas that are independent of asset popularity and crowd sentiment, rather than simply opposite, and justifying these ideas with fundamental, unbiased economic reasoning, and empirical evidence, rather than financial theory.

Contra Alpha embraces an unconstrained investing approach, without any biases towards asset classes, long-term investing, or short-term speculation, and freely explores both macro and fundamental, idiosyncratic investment ideas.

As well as exposing current investment ideas which have the potential to be profitable, Contra Alpha also investigates the past seeking lessons about the future, exploring euphorias, panics, and unexpected turnarounds.

Note: ALL commentary Related to Recent economic developments and Trade ideas (Market Notes Section) is Suspended Indefinitely due to Employer confidentiality Requirements. However, do Keep checking for updates to the Reflections Page.

About Me

I studied Mathematics at Imperial College London from 2018 to 2022, graduating with an MSci degree with First Class Honours. Since then, I have worked at several financial firms, gaining broad exposure to fixed income trading, as well as fundamental equity and credit investing.

My interests lie in market psychology, thematic macro investing, and fundamental long-term stock selection. Both my reading and my (still early but steadily growing) experience in public markets have shaped an investment philosophy grounded in independent, contrarian thinking.

I am excited about what lies ahead and warmly welcome you to Contra Alpha, which I aim to build into a community of like-minded contrarian investors.
